Please note that these applications are translations and might have errors in them.
CHAIRPERSON (two applications)
Essi Sarvilinna
Hi again, Boomi!
During my studies I have had the honor of doing plenty of different things in Boomi. In
2023 I was our travel official, in Royal Staff and on Pareto’s board in charge of its 50th
annual ball, and even though juggling all of that could be challenging at times, I feel it
gave back much more than it took. That’s what sparked my fire for Boomi and especially
for organizing events, which is why I ended up applying last year as Project Manager A.
My year on the board brought everything I could have hoped for – unforgettable
experiences and unimaginably rewarding moments at the end of projects we’d worked
on together. On top of that, I got to do a lot of things I didn’t even know I wanted to do a
year ago. My time on Boomi’s board has been anything but monotonous; I’ve been able
to do concrete equality work as Equality Officer, organize Bola’s 10th birthday party, plan
our website redesign, and during the autumn as Vice-Chair help out with whatever our
Chair has been needing at any given time.
I’ve also spent a lot of time this year researching Boomi’s history and thinking about its
future. These are exciting times for Boomi. Student enrolment is growing significantly
and activity should grow with it, but the level of applicant activity has been mixed. A lot
of work has been done in the past year to keep people active and increase the number
of applicants, thanks in particular to the Strategy Committee. I consider one of the most
important tasks of the 2025 Chair to be ensuring that these long-considered changes
are implemented and well documented.
You can’t have perfection for everyone in an organization this big, but you can go a long
way if you try to leave your successor with a better starting point than you did. I have
tried to do this by giving a lot of thought to my orientation materials and by trying to
correct the structural deficiencies I have experienced. For example, by proposing to the
travel official a free Excu Abroad, and by wishing for a SporttiAppro with its own person
in charge, I have tried to lower the threshold for applying. As Chair, I would like to
encourage a similar trend across all sectors – by listening to members we can make
Boomi’s different activities more attractive, less burdensome and leave more space and
time for each person to implement their own ideas.
I want to maintain an environment where you can learn by doing, and never have to do
something just because it has always been done before. The activities can be time-consuming and demanding at times, but they offer many opportunities for growth,
learning and fun.
Have an exciting wait for the autumn meeting!
Taneli Arra
Let’s think for a moment about a regular member of Boomi. After high school, dad said at the
dinner table that it would probably be a good idea to get a degree. After a moment of
reflection, they applied and ended up here in Tampere, studying economics. Now a warm cup
of coffee from Boomilaakso will serve as a safety in the thrill at 12:00, when the tickets for the
next sitz party go on sale. They wonder: who will I sit next to this time?
As a chair of the board, I would be genuinely interested in the needs and aspirations of the
ordinary members of Boomi. The chairman could easily be seen as a leader operating at a
distance from the members, locking himself up behind office doors to ponder Boomi’s future
plans, tweak the governing documents and study the law on associations. While the
operational tasks of the chair of the board are very important and I know I would handle them
well, I would be much more concerned with responding to the wishes and needs of the
ordinary members of Boomi.
These needs and wishes of the members can be met through a functioning board and I would
see the most important task of the chairman as being the leader of the board. As a leader, I
am approachable and fair to all yet demanding when necessary. I also have the ability to
remain calm in difficult situations and act as an important pillar of support for others. This is
something I have received praise for in the board’s feedback sessions, and it is a quality I
would like to bring to next year’s board also.
To run the board of Boomi effectively, the chair needs to understand the sectors of the board.
This past year as Head of Finances has taught me a lot about Boomi. Almost every activity has
money flowing through it in some way, so being the Head of Finances has given me an
understanding of all sectors. It’s hard not to know what’s going on in Boomi when I have seen
every single sale and purchase throughout the year.
I believe my application brings up my most important theme for the upcoming potential year
as the chair of the board. It’s about helping and listening to other people. The upcoming year
in Boomi will not be built by one chair or even one board, it will be built by all of us.
My name is Taneli, and I’m applying to be the chair of the board. See you at the autumns
general meeting, remember to bring a packed lunch so you won’t starve!
VICE-CHAIR (three applications)
Aada Rouhiainen
Hello! I’m Aada, a fourth-year student, and I’m applying for the role of Vice Chairperson for the
2025 board.
This year, I have served as the party manager on the board, gaining a broad understanding of both
the workings of the board and the overall operations of the association. Before my year on the
board, I served as the Head of Educational Policy for Tariffi ry, a member of the party team and as a
tutor in 2023, and as part of the editor-team and annual ball staff in 2022.
The Vice Chairperson position will be a new independent role on the board, and I believe I have
much to contribute to its development in its first year. This year, I have become very familiar with
the daily routines and general practices of the board, which would allow me to focus my energy on
developing the Vice Chairperson role from the very beginning.
One of my key responsibilities as Vice Chairperson would be to support the well-being of both
board members and officers. Over the past year, I have observed both the strengths and challenges
of our current practices and areas where improvements can be made. Currently, the cooperation
between the board and officers is occasionally fragmented, and as Vice Chairperson, I would strive
to strengthen this collaboration from the beginning. Well-executed onboarding in administrative
matters and involving officers in day-to-day operations would foster teamwork between officers and
board members. I would also focus on building camaraderie among the officers and improving
connections with the board through joint workshops and other informal gatherings.
Many of the Vice Chairperson’s responsibilities are already familiar to me, which would support
my own well-being throughout the year and free up resources to support the well-being of other
board members, allowing room for further development work. I would enthusiastically take on both
administrative and day-to-day responsibilities, while also working closely with the Chair of the
board to advance the operations of the leadership team.
The Vice Chairperson role has been carefully planned and actively developed over the past years. It
would be a great honor to help establish the position in its first year, and I believe that with the
planning already in place and my own experience, I could offer significant contributions to the role,
Boomi, and its members. Boomi is close to my heart, and I have a deep passion for giving my best
to this community as Vice Chairperson.
Jerry Kyllästinen
Hello! My name is Jerry Kyllästinen, I am a third year boomari and I’m applying to the position of
vice-chair of the board of Boomi for 2025.
I have previously worked as a tutor in Boomi, and currently as a harassment contact person.
Running for the board has been on the back of my mind for a while, but previously there really
didn’t exist a position for me. I was excited when I heard about the creation of the vice-chair
position and realised that the duties involved would be a good fit for me. A year as an official at
Boomi has given me a great foundation for a year on the Board. I have been able to see the inner
workings of our organisation and how the different sectors work.
The position of vice-chair was created to ease the workload of board members, and the vice-chair
has a seemingly mixed bag of tasks. The common factor is, that these tasks require someone who
can keep their eye on the big picture and juggle several different things at once. My previous jobs
required such skills and in those I performed well. My ability to work well together is one of my
main strengths. As an official, I got to work with another harassment contact person and manage my
own team. I can work with others in challenging situations and like to help others.
I think the main goal for the vice-chair next year is to clarify the tasks belonging to them. It is
difficult to say exactly in advance how demanding the job will be, and the tasks of the vice-chair
will certainly become more specific next year. It is important that the job of vice-chair is balanced
and interesting for the future.
One of the most important tasks of the vice-chair is to contribute to the wellbeing of the board and
officials. Wellbeing has been talked about a lot this year and as a harassment contact person, I have
organised Boomi’s annual Equality and Wellbeing Survey to help the issue. In addition to this, I was
involved in creating our association’s first equality plan, and at the same time outlining framework
for the coming years. I hope to continue this kind of work as vice-chair.
As an official, I have also seen how time-consuming it can be to be on the board. However, my
studies and my life situation allow for flexibility and full commitment to Boomi in the coming year.
This year has proved to me how rewarding being an active can be, and I know that I still have a lot
to offer Boomi.
See you at the general meeting!
Jerry
Timi Suopajärvi
Greetings! I’m Timi, a 22-year-old third-year student and I am running for vice chair of Boomi’s
board for the year 2025. I started my involvement in Boomi in 2023, during which I was part
of the events division “Rottakopla” and served as a bachelor’s tutor for new freshmen. This year,
I have been working as the corporate relations manager on Tariffi’s board.
This year on the board has been one of the most significant reasons for me to apply to Boom’s
board. When I heard about the creation of the vice chair position, I immediately knew it was
the perfect role for me. During the past year, in addition to my corporate relations
responsibilities, I have been able to work on many other aspects of the association, which has
undoubtedly improved my understanding of board work and the operational activities of an
association. It has also enhanced my collaboration and organizational skills. I cannot leave out
my year in Rottakopla, from which I believe I gained a lot of useful experience in organizing
events, a responsibility that will fall under the vice chair’s duties.
The role of the Vice Chair is broad and multifaceted, but at the same time, a very tempting
challenge. I definitely want to be involved in developing this new role and solidifying the tasks
that come with it through active board work. My goal is to be present in all the association’s
activities and stay up-to-date on what is happening in different areas of the organization. This
way, I can genuinely support the well-being of my fellow board members and consider the
association’s other key areas in my own responsibilities. Active work, combined with my
energetic and colorful personality, offers a unique opportunity to strengthen the spirit of the
board and create a positive atmosphere. The new role requires a motivated individual who
brings new ideas and fresh energy – perspectives that someone who has been in the role for a
long time might no longer be able to offer.
I’ve been contemplating applying to the board for a while now, and I’ve come to the conclusion
that not applying would only leave me with regret in the future. I wouldn’t be pursuing this
position if I didn’t believe I had the capabilities to meet the demands of the role. I am ready to
sacrifice my time and put in the effort to finally give back to the association that has already
given me so much.
It’s time for a breath of fresh air!
Looking forward to autumn’s meeting,
Timi Suopajärvi
PARTY MANAGER (one application)
Emil Lehmuskoski
Hello Boomi ry! I’m Emil Lehmuskoski, a third-year student. I’m applying for the position of
event coordinator for the year 2025. My journey in Boomi began as a freshman when I was
involved in founding the Boomi Sailing Club, where I’ve been the person in charge since its
establishment. Additionally, I’ve gained experience as a tutor, an international tutor, and in my
current role as the corporate relations oWicer for the annual ball committee.
In various roles within Boomi, I’ve honed my skills in organizational activities and event
management, and now I want to utilize this expertise as an event coordinator. As the person in
charge of the Sailing Club, I’ve had the opportunity to organize events from start to finish, such
as sitzparties and sailing courses, and worked closely with other responsible persons and
active members, which has developed my teamwork skills and ability to coordinate multiphase projects. Organizing sailing courses has given me valuable experience working with
external partners and strengthened my networking and negotiation skills. Being a tutor, on the
other hand, has given me insight into the importance of community-oriented and inclusive
events. As a regular attendee of overall parties, I’ve also gained a good understanding of the
possibilities for developing the celebration culture.
As an event coordinator, I would focus on maintaining competitiveness and improving the preparties. The appeal of overall parties cannot be taken for granted, so the visitor experience
should be continuously enhanced. I would strengthen competitiveness by investing in the
quality and number of artists, continuing collaboration with Unidance, and exploring the
possibilities of bands and other performers. Small actions, such as music, carefully planning
drink menus and themes, and small-scale activities like hiding drink tickets, would make the
overall parties even more appealing. Attracting engineering students, for example, by
providing a bus from Hervanta, could also boost competitiveness.
I would work on making the pre-parties more attractive and diverse to draw students in rather
than having them pre-party at home. Pub quizzes and dildo bingo, which have proven to be
successful, could be part of this approach. I also see growth potential for ‘HB goes
Märkäappro’: it could be branded more closely as a part of the overall party experience.
The role of event coordinator and board work have been on my mind since my first year of
studies, and now, after careful consideration, I’m ready to give my all to the position. I’m lively,
inspiring, and capable of throwing myself into new things—qualities that I believe would be
beneficial as an event coordinator. I do things wholeheartedly and am committed to bringing a
sense of community and joy through events.
I’ll see you at the fall meeting,
Emil
HEAD OF EDUCATIONAL POLICY (one application)
Aaron Nikula
Hi! I’m Aaron Nikula, and I am applying for the position of Educational Policy Representative of Boomi
ry to oversee our student organization’s tutoring, educational policy, and high-quality advocacy work.
As a third-year student, I have been actively involved in Boomi’s activities, including the Royal Staff in
2023 and educational policy team in 2024. Now, I am applying to become Boomi ry’s “kopo”
(Educational Policy Representative) so that I can continue to advocate on behalf of our members,
make the role more transparent, and ensure Boomi members’ positions at Tampere University are well
represented.
I want to make the Educational Policy Representative role more visible to both the Boomi ry board and
our members, lowering the barrier for everyone to get involved in our organization’s shared concerns.
By making advocacy opportunities more accessible, we can generate more discussion on how to
improve our organization or university. For “kopo” to represent the organization, listening to other
students and ensuring effective communication with members, the university and other stakeholders
is essential—skills in which I feel I am very proficient.
Of course, the diverse responsibilities of the “kopo” are shared with the educational policy team,
which provides an accessible way for members to get involved in advocacy and educational policy at
Boomi. I want to encourage the team to take on more responsibility in communication, ensuring that
key topics are visible within Boomi. By enhancing the educational policy team’s communication
efforts and increasing the visibility of the “kopo” role, I believe we can make this team a more attractive
division for involvement.
Boomi ry is facing an exceptional year, as the number of bachelor’s program admissions will increase
by 40 students—a roughly 25% increase from the current numbers. This will likely impact event
planning and orientation weeks, as space must be made for all new students. The same applies to
teaching and language center courses, which are already challenging to accommodate. If I am elected
as “kopo,” one of my primary goals will be to advocate for high-quality teaching and increased
resources for the language center.
I’ve had the opportunity to spend over two years at Boomi, enjoying Finland’s best student life and
engaging studies. It is close to my heart to help make this same experience possible for an even larger
group of new Boomi members, allowing them to enjoy student life as richly and memorably as I have.
See you at SYKO!
Aaron Nikula
PROJECT MANAGER A (one application)
Niina Kortevaara
Hi everyone! I’m Niina, a third-year student, and I’m applying for the position of Project
Manager A. Organizing events and various projects has always been my thing! At Boomi, I
have participated in many things, such as being in vujustaff, international tutoring, tutoring,
Rottakopla, and this year’s Royal Staff. From these roles, I have gained valuable experience in
teamwork and organizing different events. A year ago I was awarded Boomi’s pin in
recognition of my innovativeness and enthusiasm. I believe that my previous experience and
hardworking, determined nature provide an excellent foundation for this position.
For years, I’ve known that I want to be involved in the board and development of Boomi. While
organizing Särkän Märkä this spring, I realized that this is the right role for me. As the
marketing manager, I gained a comprehensive view of the various aspects of the event,
including potential areas for improvement. Organizing Särkän Märkä on its 10th anniversary
would be a great honor! I already have many special ideas for the anniversary, but above all, I
think that the most important thing is to continuously improve the visitor experience.
This year’s event was very successful despite the late winter weather. I think it’s essential to
keep and document the improvements that were proven good this year. Due to the timing of
the event, unpredictable weather and ride closures are always risks that no one can directly
control. As the project manager, I would prepare for this risk well in advance by focusing more
on promoting and arranging other activities at Särkänniemi. Additionally, I believe it is
important to discuss with the afterparty venues, how to avoid the challenges encountered this
year.
The general rise in costs poses its own challenge to organizing a large event. Besides
achieving a good financial outcome, I believe it is essential for the event to remain as studentfriendly as possible in terms of pricing. I see potential for this, for example, by developing
contract negotiations with Särkänniemi and corporate partnerships, which our team already
made good progress on this year.
I strongly believe that open and honest communication is always important. I would utilize
this approach with Särkänniemi, corporate partners, and our team. My goal is that, thanks to
my energetic and organized working style, I could help create a great spirit of work with Royal,
right from the beginning of the year.
See you at Syko! <3
PROJECT MANAGER 1 (one application)
Onerva Ristilä
Hi Boomaris!
I am Onerva Ristilä, a fourth-year Boomari, and I’m running for Project Manager 1. This year, I
was part of the project team and served as Boomi’s harassment contact person. Previously, I have
been a tutor, a support student, and a member of the educational policy team. I have considered
running for Boomi’s board in the past, but this year solidified my decision. One of the most
rewarding moments of the past year was witnessing all the hard work come to life when we
organized Nokia Arena’s afterparty before Appro began, and I want to continue contributing to
Appro in the upcoming year.
As an official, I have gained valuable insight into Boomi’s operations and I aspire to be an active
part of our association in 2025.
Hämeenkadun Appro is already an amazing concept, but there is still room for improvement. One
area I would focus on is enhancing corporate relations. Building partnerships early in the year
would add significant value to the event and make it easier to secure collaborations with firms. Additionally, I would increase the responsibility for partnerships among all project team members.
To maintain Appro’s status as one of the most popular student events of the year, it is crucial to
ensure an excellent customer experience. This involves securing a high number of participating bars
and restaurants. There are also opportunities to improve cooperation with the venues, which would
strengthen the continuity of the event. Streamlining the contact process and incorporating feedback
from this year’s event is essential, especially since the number of potential venues in the city center
is limited.
I understand that a year on the board will be demanding, but this past year has taught me how to
prioritize and manage my time while also emphasizing the importance of recovery. I believe my
experience as an official will greatly aid my transition to a board member. I am ready to contribute
to both Boomi and Appro.
I look forward to seeing you at the autumn general meeting! 😉
HEAD OF FINANCES (two applications)
Aaron Kortelainen
Moro! I’m Aaron Kortelainen and I’m a second year boomari. I’m applying for the position of Boomi’s Head of Finances for for the season 2025.
Crunching numbers and problem solving have always been my interests. I see I sometimes find myself consumed with a stubborn determination to solve unsolvable problems. On the other hand, Boomi has taught me different perspectives on difficult situations and has provided me with a broader perspective on challenging situations. I have had the opportunity to participate in many activities in Boomi this year, including as a member of the vuju staff, as a tutor and in our events team Rottakopla.
I am applying for the position of financial officer because the past year has sparked my interest in the finances behind our organisation’s activities. I have found that when given responsibility I excel. So, the next natural step would be to take it myself. In addition, I have had a conversation with Boomi’s current Head of Finances which has only strengthened my resolve to take the position. Even though I haven’t chosen a major yet, I have been heavily concentrating on accounting courses in my studies, which gives me a good basis for the role of taking account in the financial management of Boomi.
When we talk about Boomi’s finances, I think it is important that the use of funds is fair and in the interest of the organisation as a whole.
So in the coming year, as the admission quota and therefore the number of members grows, my main focus will be on maintaining and developing the activities so that we can continue to provide an equal experience for the freshers at Smurfweeks without taking away opportunities for other members to participate in the activities of the organisation.
I value different perspectives, and I would like the members of the Finance Team to get as much out of the team’s activities as possible.
Although the future Vice-Chair’s post will distribute the workload more evenly in the coming period, it is still very important to take into account the well-being and well-being of the other members of the Board.
My aim is therefore to try to detect any possible exhaustion and to help in good time, so that it does not become more than exhaustion itself.
See you at the autumn meeting,
Aaron Kortelainen
Elias Saarinen
Hello, fellow members of Boomi! My name is Elias Saarinen, and I’m a second-year Student.
I’m applying for the role of Head of Finances on Boom’s board. I first became interested in our
beloved student association’s activities during my freshman fall, and since then I’ve been
involved in the 2024 fall tutoring program and in Boomski. I haven’t chosen my major yet, but
so far, my studies have primarily focused on economics and accounting courses.
Applying for a board position has been on my mind for quite a while, and now I’ve found the
one role among all these exciting positions that truly interests me, where my strengths align
well with the responsibilities. After talking with the current head of Finances, I gained a
clearer understanding of the responsibilities and duties involved in the role. I realized that the
most important qualities for a treasurer are definitely reliability, teamwork skills, and a strong
grasp of the bigger picture.
Our student association’s activities revolve around organizing various events with the support
of active members. One of the key responsibilities of the head of finances’ role is to ensure
that the association’s shared funds are used as planned, transparently, and, above all, in the
best interests of the association. Acting in the common interest also means maintaining a
stable financial situation for the future, so that upcoming members have a solid foundation to
build upon.
Boomi’s operating plan highlights financial sustainability as a priority. The head of finances’
duties and responsibilities will likely remain similar in the next board term. However, as the
head of finances, I would like to improve and streamline the finance team’s operations to
better support the head of finances’ responsibilities. Since I believe that collaboration is an
absolute cornerstone of Boomi’s work, I want to hear the finance team’s ideas for
improvement and work together to move forward in the right direction.
Why am I well-suited for the role of treasurer? My strengths are definitely reliability and
teamwork skills. I am ready to help others and support my fellow board members – whether in
day-to-day matters or larger projects within my area of expertise. Reliability and stability are
essential in the head of finances’ role, so that other board members can focus on their own
tasks without worrying about the responsibilities that fall under the finance team’s purview. I
am committed to doing everything I can for this role!
See you all at the autumn general meeting!
EVENT COORDINATOR (one application)
Akseli Komulainen
Hi, my name is Akseli Komulainen, and I am a second-year student in Boomi. During the
short time I’ve spent in Boomi, I’ve managed to experience a lot and have had some
amazing and educational experiences. From the beginning, I have enjoyed organizing
events, which is why I was already part of the organizing team for Jäärärace during my
freshman fall. Since Jäärärace, I have worked in various roles, including as a member of
the Vuju-staff in the Sillis-team. Also, in Rottakopla, and as an international and bachelor’s
tutor. I have a strong enthusiasm for organizing events, which is why I am applying to be
the events coordinator for the upcoming year.
As the events coordinator, I want to improve the quality of Boomi’s events. The high
number of events is starting to impact their quality. Boomi already has events almost every
week throughout the academic year. For this reason, it would be good to maintain the
current number of events or even reduce some. In my opinion, Boomi should focus more
on the quality rather than the quantity of events.
Last year, vappu was deemed too long for most of the members. Next year, perhaps the
biggest change I’d like to make is to reduce the number of Vappu events. This would allow
Rottakopla to focus more on specific events that are preferred by the members. This also
makes it possible for Boomi’s students to participate in the Trey’s Wappuun without having
to miss out on Boomi’s Vappu events entirely. I also aim to increase collaboration with
subject clubs, both within Boomi and with external subject organizations, for example, in
relation to pre-parties for Vappu and other events.
From last year, I want to continue the effort to support the well-being and mental health of
the events coordinator and Rottakopla. One possible way is to have a designated person
within Rottakopla who acts as a right hand to the events coordinator. This could potentially
ease the workload on the events coordinator and assist in tasks requiring creativity. This
person could also take more responsibility on the event day for practical matters that the
events coordinator may not have time for. In addition to this person, I want to give
Rottakopla more responsibility for event day logistics, such as creating work schedules.
The role of events coordinator is demanding and time-consuming. However, I have a lot of
enthusiasm for organizing events. I want to continue Boomi’s traditions and make them
even better. I also want to organize new events that could serve even more of our
members.
See you at the autumn meeting,
Akseli Komulainen
HEAD OF PREMISES (one application)
Roope Virolainen
Hello! I’m Roope, a 23-year-old second-year student in Boomi. You might have come across
me at various events, or in the premises team, BoomSki, the anniversary staff, or tutoring. I
joined the premises team in my freshman year with the long-term goal of one day applying for
the role of Head of Premises, if I found the work interesting. In the premises team, I’ve had the
chance to closely observe the development of our facilities, see the daily life of the Head of
Premises, and contribute to the improvement of premises myself. Working with Boomi’s
facilities has proven to be highly interesting, so the decision to apply for the Head of Premises
position for 2025 was an easy one.
I’m sure we can agree that Boomi’s premises right next to the university are a fantastic asset.
To keep them at least as pleasant as they are now, we need ongoing maintenance and
development due to the high utilization rate. Besides our members, our facilities are also used
for renting purposes, except for Bola. I believe we should focus more on this rental activity,
making it smoother, more modern, and worry-free. This wouldn’t only ease the day-to-day
work of the Head of Premises and the premises team but would also make the process more
enjoyable for our renters. A satisfied renter is more likely to return, bringing us essential rental
income for Boomi’s functions.
At the Klubi57, meeting room, Sauna57, and Bola all have other areas for improvement, such
as accessibility improvements that are already underway. However, the upkeep and
development of the facilities, as well as their day-to-day management, cannot be handled
alone; they require close cooperation with the board and other active members. I believe my
background is strong in this regard, as my experience in Boomi’s activities gives me the knowhow for smooth collaboration with other members, and my work experience in construction
brings the perspective and problem-solving skills needed in the Head of Premises role. The
areas for development extend beyond the facilities – the premises team itself could also
benefit from some improvements. Over the coming year, I plan to involve the premises team
even more in the daily activities of both the Head of Premises and Boomi’s facilities.
I’ve given this role, and the decision to apply for it, a lot of thought. I know I am as ready for
this position as one can be before a board year. If I am chosen, I plan to give my all to this
position for the upcoming calendar year. I genuinely want to contribute to making Boomi and
our premises a better place for everyone.
Looking forward to the autumn meeting,
Roope Virolainen
HEAD OF CORPORATE RELATIONS (one application)
Laura Karukka
Hi Boomi ry! I am Laura Karukka, a second-year student and I am applying for the position of Head of
Corporate Relations.
Over the past year I have worked in a wide range of roles within Boomi ry. My Boomi experience consists
of Vuju staff 56, Jäärärace 23, BoomSki 24 and Tutor 24. However, the most important and essential role
that I have had is Corporate Relations team 24. My work there gave me a clear picture of the current
state of Boomi’s corporate relations. Working closely with the current Head of Corporate Relations has
allowed me to observe and reflect on whether I could take on this role myself. I believe that I would be
the right person to represent our student association in the business world.
Due to working in the corporate relations team, I bring a fresh perspective on the workload and tasks. I
want to make an annual schedule and a calendar for the corporate relations team to make their work
easier and more efficient. With those measures I believe that the members would manage their job
better. I would set clear goals for the team, so we could update our lagging member benefits. Thanks to
my year in the corporate relations team, I have a realistic view of our current corporate relations. I know
what needs to be improved and what has worked well this year. The position of Head of Corporate
Relations feels like a natural next step for my work in Boomi ry.
I want to ensure that Boomi’s corporate relations sector provides a diverse range of events. I intend to
make sure that every major has access to interesting excursions and events next year. A good taste of
this was the first-ever Amazing Case event we organized this year, where each participating company
presented a case task related to a different major. A priority of mine is to maintain Boomi’s positive
reputation. The timing and frequency of our events will need to be re-evaluated next year to ensure that
we remain in a good light with our partner companies.
Above all this, during my board year I want to help make Boomi’s activities more attractive. While it is
essential to do the work assigned to you, it is equally important to enjoy doing it. My first year in Boomi
has been a dream and I hope to spread that joy and enthusiasm that working here has given me even
more in the upcoming year.
I hope to see you in the syko!
HEAD OF COMMUNICATIONS (one application)
Lauri Laihonen
Hi boomarit! My name is Lauri Laihonen. I’m a fourth-year student, and I’m applying for
the position of Head of Communications for 2025.
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to be writing this application until this week. However,
with the additional application period opening up, I’ve had a chance to reflect on my
future and my role in this organization, which is very dear to me. I’m confident that I still
have much to offer Boomi and that the Head of Communications role would be an ideal
fit.
Over the past years, I’ve had the honor of contributing to our organization in a variety of
roles. This year, I served as the Alumni Officer, and I’ve also been a national and
international tutor, a responsible member and active in Johtoryhmä, and part of the
NESU-Boomi Board for the past year.
These roles have given me a deep understanding of our association and its
communication style, as well as experience working across several sectors of Boomi. I
believe this extensive background gives me an excellent foundation for the Head of
Communications role – along with a range of practical skills.
While my Boomi resume might lack certain positions directly related to the role, I’ve
had the chance to perform many of its core tasks. As Alumni Officer, I’ve been
responsible for alumni communications and helped launch the new WhatsApp info
channel for alumni. Additionally, I’ve managed a variety of club-level communications,
including designing overall patches, banners, event texts, and managing multiple social
media channels and systems. I’ve also gained experience in social media and editorial
work in my professional life.
Effective communication is crucial to building an active and engaged community within
Boomi. While recent reforms have greatly improved our communications, there’s still
work to be done. Moving our main communication to Telegram has streamlined the
process, but it has also introduced challenges with information overload. Similarly,
shifting Boomi’s internal communication to Teams opens up new opportunities for
improving communication at both the active and member levels. Next year’s Head of
Communications will play a crucial role in this, and I believe my diverse experience in
Boomi will be a valuable asset.
As Head of Communications, I aim to maintain Boomi’s high visual standards, improve
collaboration with the editorial team, and continue to promote English-language
communication.
Thank you for reading, and I hope to see you in the autumn general meeting!
